Meaning of Valentine’s Day
Valentine’s Day or Saint Valentine’s Day is known all around the world as the day of love.

It falls every year on the 14th of February.

Valentine’s Day holds a lot of significance in religious, cultural and commercial celebration of love and romance in many parts of the world.

Although Valentine’s Day is known and celebrated worldwide, there is an official no holiday anywhere.

Originally, Saint Valentine’s Day was known as the Feast of Saint Valentine in churches.

Its origin can be traced back to the 3rd century A.D, Rome.

There were several Christian priests named Valentine, but Valentine’s Day is known for Valentine of Rome and Valentine of Terni.

Saint Valentine was a priest who took steps against Emperor Claudius II in Rome.

Claudius believed that single men are better soldiers than men with wives and kids.

Hence, he outlawed the marriage law for young soldiers. Disagreeing with him, Saint Valentine continued to perform marriages for the young soldiers and their lovers.

When Claudius learned about these practices, he immediately ordered to execute Valentine.

During his imprisonment, Valentine healed his jailer’s daughter Julia’s sight. She visited him even after her restored sight.

It is known that Valentine sent his first ‘Valentine Greeting’ to her and before the execution he wrote a farewell letter to her ending with “From your Valentine”.

Valentine of Terni was also executed on 14th February but during a different year and under Emperor Aurelian.

Later, in the middle ages, these executions were honored by the Pope and the Church as “Valentine’s Day”.

In the modern era, love on Valentine’s Day is celebrated by gifting Saint Valentine’s key, giving flowers and greeting cards, presents and offering confectionery.
